Updated | By Princess Mahogo
The Johannesburg metro police department has deployed officers to Orlando East amid a protest by residents on Wednesday morning.
Frustrated residents have barricaded of Mooki Street between the Orlando Magistrates Court and Martha Louw Street next to Orlando Stadium with burning tyres, rocks & debris.
The community is apparently frustrated over prolonged power outages in the area.
“Officers have been deployed and motorists are urged to exercise caution, avoid that affected route and use Klipspruit Valley Road, Sofasonke Street, Masupha Street and Mofokeng Street as alternative routes,” said JMPD spokesperson Xolani Fihla.
