Metro police to escort Tshwane buses amid threats of violence
Updated | By Nathan Daniels & Sibahle Motha
The City of Tshwane has requested the assistance of metro police officers after commuters threatened to attack its buses.

Tshwane officials hope the Tshwane Rapid Transit (TRT) bus services will run smoothly with the help of the city’s metro police department.
Commuters were left frustrated on Monday following the suspension of the bus services along the Mamelodi route due to fears for the safety of commuters.
Transport MMC Sheila Senkubuge says commuters had threatened to burn the buses over complaints of availability and overloading of the vehicles.

In the recent past, 19 buses had been set alight.
Senkubuge says several meetings were convened with officials and the area’s commuters forum in a bid to resolve the issues.
“An investigation will be taking place. We are getting intelligence from the ground to find out where the threats have been coming from. Once the police find the people who are going to burn the buses – we will be able to resume a normal service again.”
