The spikes, which the Tshwane metro police believe were man-made, were found on the road near Diamond Toll Plaza last Friday.

The metro police’s Isaac Mahamba says the spikes are used target unsuspecting motorists on quiet roads at night.

“These spikes are usually placed by criminals to force vehicles to stop after driving over the spikes. Motorists are then attacked by these perpetrators, especially at night.

“Targeted areas are highways and quiet roads.”

“Tshwane Metro Police would like to warn motorists to be extremely vigilant and especially driving at night. The TMPD will continue to prioritise patrols along such roads.

“No arrests have been made in this particular incident but we urge anyone with information to contact the department.”
