Metrobus restores majority of its services in Johannesburg
Updated | By Lindiwe Mpanza
Metrobus has resumed the majority of its bus services in Johannesburg today despite the strike by members of the Democratic Municipal and Allied Workers Union (Demawusa).
In a week-long strike workers are demanding improved salaries and to be given office space at Metrobus offices like majority unions Samwu and Imatu.
Metrobus spokesperson, Goodwill Shivuri says Demawusa is continuing with its strike and its members are picketing at Gandhi Square in the Joburg CBD.
However, bus services are continuing as promised, he says.
"We are fortunate enough that schools are closed so we don't have that many passengers," says Shivuri.
He adds that the members are picketing at their own risk as the employer will make sure that the “no work-no pay” principle applies.
"If this continues we may explore other avenues that may lead to a disciplinary hearing," he adds.
Workers were expected back on duty today.
