Mexico nabs security chief for Cartel boss
Mexican authorities Thursday captured the security chief of an associate of a major drug lord, the government said.
The detainee, Jesus Pena Gonzalez, works for a partner of drug kingpin Joaquin 'Chapo' Guzman.
Gonzalez was caught in a raid in a residential area of Culiacan, capital of the northwestern state of Sinaloa.
At the time of his arrest Gonzalez was found to be in possession of concealed drugs, weapons and communications equipment, the Interior Ministry said.
Raids have been going on for days in Sinaloa but details released publicly have been scant.
Press reports say the goal is to capture Gonzalez's boss, Ismael Zambada, one of the leaders of the Sinaloa cartel, considered Mexico's most powerful.
He is said to be a partner of Guzman, the drug lord most wanted by Mexico and the United States.
The government is offering the equivalent of $2.3 million for information leading to the arrest of Zambada.
