Meyerton protesters hijack liquor truck
Updated | By Nathan Daniels
Protesting residents from the Sicelo Informal Settlement in the Vaal took to the streets in the early hours of Monday morning.
Protesters hijacked a truck transporting liquor, looted it, before leaving it in the middle of the R59.
Police say the R59 between the Meyerton and Johan le Roux offramps remain close as authorities await the owner to bring the spare keys.
“The windscreen of the truck is damaged. They also took some liquor out of the truck. The owner of the truck is in Pretoria. They took the keys as they were fleeing from the scene. We are still waiting for the spare keys,” says provincial spokesperson, Mavela Masondo.
Residents are apparently protesting against poor service delivery in the area.
Police are on scene.
