Meyiwa trial adjourned to allow defence team access to police car records

There was another early adjournment in the Senzo Meyiwa murder trial in the High Court in Pretoria on Tuesday.

Adv Thulani Mngomezulu

The adjournment came after the defence advocate for accused one and two, Thulani Mngomezulu, requested that the excluded car records of the witness, Sergeant Vusumuzi Mogane, be made available to him.

Mngomezulu, who represents Bongani Ntanzi and Muzi Sibiya, told the court that he needed to see the records of the car used by Mogane for the 22 and 24 June 2020.

Evidence before the court has excluded the records for both days as Mogane was not driving the vehicle that he initially used to take Ntanzi to his first alleged confession.

"Where are the records of the vehicle for 22 and 24  June 2020? Because he (Mngomezulu) says it wasn't used, but you haven't given him proof to say it wasn't used. Where are the records?" questioned Judge Ratha Mokgoathleng.

"On the 24th, a different vehicle was used, and he was still the driver," responded state prosecutor Advocate George Baloyi.

"I am referring to the 22 June 2020 when he (Ntanzi) was taken to court," responded Mngomezulu.

Ntanzi made a court appearance on 22 June 2020 in connection with a murder committed in Nongoma.

He was also driven to the Boksburg Magistrate’s Court on 24 June 2020, where he would allegedly make his second confession to Magistrate Vivian Cronje.
