M&G editor Angela Quintal quits

Quintal said she was leaving to explore "different horizons". In a media statement, both she and the weekly's CEO Hoosain Karjieker mentioned that the media industry was traversing difficult times.
Quintal said she was sad to leave the Mail & Guardian and would miss her editorial colleagues, "who continued to produce great journalism across several platforms, in an increasingly difficult environment".
"They are professionals to the core and continue to play an important role in consolidating and strengthening our democracy at a time when independent, credible and fearless journalism needs to flourish."
Karjieker said Moshoeshoe Monare would serve as acting editor until a replacement for Quintal had been found.
"Angela brought a level of calmness into the newsroom with her pragmatic management style and approach, and we value her contribution immensely. We are sad to see her leave," he said.
Karjieker added that this was a particularly difficult time for the industry as the weakening economy impacted on business models in the industry that resulted in staff reduction and retrenchment of journalists across the sector.
