RADOVAN KREJCIR FOUND GUILTY - We start in the Johannesburg High Court where Czech businessman Radovan Krejcir has been, for the first time in a South African court, found guilty.


Krejcir was found guilty on charges of kidnapping and attempted murder after he was arrested in November 2013.  He appeared along with five other suspects in the case with the charges stemming from a drug deal that went wrong. 


Judge Colin Lamont found that Krejcir and all of his co-accused where involved in the kidnapping of Bheki Lukhele. 


On charges of dealing in drugs, Krejcir was found guilty on attempt.

FIRE AT SCHOOL FOR DEAF - An inquest has been opened following the death of three learners, aged between 16 and 18-years-old, at the North West Secondary School for the Deaf in Leeudoringstad, after a fire broke out in the early hours of Monday morning.  


According to police spokesperson Pelonomi Makau, it is suspected that the fire started in the girls' hostel on the first floor...


 

 

 


PUBLIC PROTECTOR TO BRIEF MEDIA ON PRASA - Public Protector ThuIi Madonsela will be releasing the much anticipated report into the dealings of the Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa later today. 


There report is said to contain more detail on dodgy tenders, paying rent for vacant buildings and forking out millions for employees who were improperly fired. 

 


STEEL INDUSTRY TALKS - Metalworkers union Numsa is adamant that discussions between government and the metal and steel industry is only the first step and that much more must be done, and fast. 


Steel industry bosses and unions briefed the media on recent talks held between the sector and government on plans to support the struggling industry. 


According to Numsa's Irvin Jim, they disagree with companies who say it is a long term process and that there will be retrenchments in the short term...
