Midrand police officers charged for demanding lockdown bribe

Four police officers who were arrested for allegedly demanding a bribe have been granted bail.

The four were arrested in Midrand over the weekend.

 

National police spokesperson Vish Naidoo says the officers demanded a bribe from someone who contravened the lockdown regulations.

 

They were charged with defeating the ends of justice.

"Four constables were arrested after allegedly trying to solicit a bribe by a somebody who had contravened the disaster management regulations,” says Naidoo.

 

"Those police offices were arrested in a planned operated and were charged with defeating the ends of justice and a few other charges, which of course we need to discuss with the prosecutor before we make them publicly known.”

 

The officers were granted R1500 bail each by the Midrand Magistrate’s Court.
