Minimum wage to be announced this weekend
Updated | By Maryke Vermaak
The planned national minimum wage is set to be announced this weekend.
Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa confirmed in Boksburg that Nedlac social partners will meet on Sunday.
Business, labour and community based organisations will receive a report from a panel of advisers on the issue.
The report is expected to give clarity on the minimum wage issue.
Nedlac partners will also deal with the ways in which implementation should take place.
"The magical figure that everybody has been waiting for will be out on Sunday. We will discuss it and we will then publish it on Sunday," says Ramaphosa.
The proposal will be discussed across the country by all relative role players - including unions and government.
An optimistic Ramaphosa says these are much more concrete proposals than before.
"It's an exciting moment for all the partners who have been involved in these discussions, because we are now recording real, meaningful progress. It's no longer just words. It's something concrete on the table now," says Ramaphosa.
