Minister: Corrupt police officers must be apprehended
Updated | By Nushera Soodyal
Speaking at a briefing in Durban, Police Minister Nathi Nhleko says decisive action needs to be taken when officers are caught up in corruption.

The minister briefed stakeholders including the Hawks and IPID on his office's mandate at the Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre.
Nhleko said officers must face the same consequences as law offenders when linked to corruption scandals.
"As much as policemen and women are enforcers of the law, that very same law that they enforce also applies to them. The reason why we have structures like IPID for example, is so that we tackle cases - which the body has dealt with - affecting rogue elements within the police," he said.

Nhleko also says a unit within the Hawks - dealing with drugs and gangsterism in problem areas will be revived.
