Trade and Industry Minister Rob Davies launched a R100 million Dursots & All Joy Tomato Processing Plant in Modjadjiskloof near Tzaneen on Monday.
An estimated 300 jobs are expected to be created through the R100 million investment in an aim to lower the country's unemployment rate.
Davies said the agricultural sector contributes most to employment.
"[The plant] will be able to generate 9000 jobs for six months of the year for farmers supplying tomatoes into this factory," Davies said.

Masedi Mohale, a farmer in the area, said the plant has reduced his distribution costs.
"Now that this processing plant is next to us, there will be less expenses for packaging and transport and it gives more money back to the farmers," Mohale said.

Rachel Maphoto said she has now employed more workers on her farm.
"This means a lot to us. I just wish they will work properly with us so that we can continue increasing the scale," she said.
