Minister launches long-term solution for Acid Mine Drainage
Updated | By Samkele Maseko
The Minister of Water and Sanitation, Nomvula Mokonyane, has turned the short-term Acid Mine Drainage solution to a long-term sustainable plan.

Mokonyane was speaking at the launch of a purification plant in Germiston on Wednesday and said citizens of Gauteng would benefit from the purification in the long run.
The minister said industry has already come on board to receive water purified from Acid Mine Drainage plants.
The Department of Water and Sanitation will contribute R600 million per annum towards the running of these plants.
Mokonyane also said the water can, in the long run, be used by households for consumption.

"My humble appeal is that South Africa celebrates that we've found our own homemade, home-grown solution to deal with the legacy of the past and we are dealing with it as a solution for the future," Mokonyane said.
Mokonyane added the plants will help in eradicating the triple challenges by creating employment.
