Minister launches Tax Season 2017
Updated | By Jacaranda FM News
Finance Minister Malusi Gigaba has officially launched the 2017 tax season.
The minister was accompanied by his deputy Sfiso Buthelezi and Commissioner of the South African Revenue Services (SARS), Tom Moyane.
Speaking during a media briefing at SARS' Orlando East branch in Soweto, Gigaba urged South Africans to continue paying their taxes to help uplift the SA economy.
"They do that by making their contributions during the tax season," Gigaba said.
Gigaba said a big slice of the budget that will be tabled in Parliament next year is made up from contributions by taxpayers.
"That is an enormous impact - not just on affirming the sovereignty of our nation - but it has an enormous impact on ensuring that we are able, as government, to fulfil our responsibilities to our people."
