Minor appears in preliminary inquiry over Lufuno Mavhungu assault

A 14-year-old girl appeared before a presiding officer for a preliminary inquiry in connection with the assault of a fellow pupil.

The girl was arrested on Wednesday after a viral video surfaced showing an incidence of bullying at Mbilwi Secondary School in Limpopo earlier in the week.
The teen faces a charge of assault for the brutal, public assault of the late Lufuno Mavhungu who died of suicide following the assault.
The National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) in Limpopo says child in conflict with the law appeared in a preliminary inquiry on Friday.
"The arrested child will be dealt with according to the Child Justice Act prescripts," said NPA regional spokesperson Mashudu Malabi-Dzhangi.
"The matter was remanded to 20 April for formal bail application in Thohoyandou Magistrate Children's Court," Malabi-Dzhangi added.
The case will be heard in-camera.
The police have also opened an inquest docket to further investigate her death.
