MK: Election performance 'shows people trust us'

Jacob Zuma's uMkhonto WeSizwe party believes the election victory in KwaZulu-Natal is in the bag, and the results from the IEC seem to support this.
The party, which is contesting its first election, had garnered 43.71% of the votes in KZN by Friday morning.
Nationally, the MK party is in third place with over 800,000 thousand, while the ANC remains in first with over three million votes.
General Manager in the MK Party's secretary's office, Lee Mchunu, said KZN belongs to his party.
"This shows how much people trust us, how much people believed in our manifesto, the people's mandate. I can assure you that the premier in KwaZulu-Natal will be delivered by uMkhonto weSizwe.”
On Thursday, the ANC's national chair, Gwede Mantashe, admitted surprise at the MK’s performance in KZN while hinting that Zulu tribalism might be one of the reasons for its performance.
"Now, if the impact is in KZN, it reflects something different. It reflects Zulu tribalism. I do not think we should actually lock ourselves into Zulu tribalism.
“Tribalism is a backward form of politics, so if that is the factor, I am not worried about it," Mantashe told the media at the National Results Operating Centre in Midrand.
