The founder of the newly launched MK party, Jabulani Khumalo, wrote to the Independent Electoral Commission on Monday, in his capacity as a former MK president, requesting for Zuma to be removed as the face of the party on the election ballot.

Zuma is number one on the MK party’s list of candidates for the National Assembly.

In the letter, which has been making the rounds on social media, Khumalo claimed that the former president occupied the position fraudulently.

MK spokesperson Nhlamulo Ndhela says Khumalo has no business with the party, as he was recently expelled.

"Jabulani Khumalo is not the founder of MK party, President Zuma is. Jabulani Khumalo was a random selection to register the party for obvious reasons because we did not want the ANC or any of Jacob Zuma’s adversaries to know in advance what was happening.

"So, Jabulani Khumalo has never been the founder or in any way been the president of the party. President Zuma has always been the president of the party.

"We used to refer to Jabulani Khumalo as the commander, but in the end, the ultimate leader is and has always been President Zuma," he said.

Khumalo was part of a group of MK officials who were recently purged from the party.

The party said the decision was part of efforts “to cleanse itself of rogue elements within its ranks”.
