MK party withdraws vote-rigging case against IEC
The uMkhonto we Sizwe Party has withdrawn its application against the Electoral Commission at the Electoral Court.
It had asked the court to declare the 2024 election results invalid due to what it claimed to have been vote rigging
The party's decision to withdraw the case comes just a week after the IEC requested the court to dismiss the party's application.
The IEC stated that the MK party failed to present credible or admissible evidence to support its claims of vote rigging.
Additionally, the party did not comply with Section 55 of the Electoral Act, which requires appeals against election results to be filed within three days of their declaration.
The MKP submitted its appeal two weeks later without providing reasons for the delay.
The party alleged that over 9.3 million votes were unaccounted for.
However, the IEC countered that the MK Party misrepresented election data and results.
The IEC had asked the court to dismiss the application and requested a cost order.
