Mkhize: DA claims of being blocked at OR Tambo are 'absolutely not true'
Updated | By Neo Motloung
The Minister of Health, Zweli Mkhize, has refuted claims by
the Democratic Alliance (DA) that their Members of Parliament (MPs) were
prevented access during their oversight visit to OR Tambo International Airport
port of entry.
The party claims that their MPs were blocked from inspecting the screening facilities at the airport in Gauteng.
Spokesperson for the Ministry of Health, Lwazi Manzi, says the claims by the DA are 'absolutely not true.'
She added when the minister received the request by the opposition party, he immediately contacted the Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee, Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo, to assist him in coordinating a group visit for all MPs who are interested.
"This is very important because the screening process is a very labour-intensive process and it is a process that is supposed to be of minimal risk and minimal exposure.
"Therefore, we do not want to miss a patient because of repeated interruption by the oversight visit," says Manzi.
