'Mkhwebane doesn't have to agree with court ruling’

Busiswe Mkhwebane's office says the public protector is under no obligation to agree with Tuesday’s scathing judgment in the High Court in Pretoria.
The court set aside her report into donations given to President Cyril Ramaphosa’s African National Congress (ANC) leadership campaign.
A full Bench of the court, comprising of judges Elias Matojane, Raylene Keightley, and Dustin Mlambo, ruled that Mkhwebane did not have jurisdiction to investigate the campaign funds and that her actions were unlawful, irrational and reckless.

"She was not anticipating this kind of ruling, she will study the matter, but obviously it’s a disappointing judgment and she respects the judiciary. But of course, respecting a ruling does not mean you have to agree with it," said spokesperson Oupa Segalwe.
He said Mkhwebane and her legal team will study the judgment extensively before deciding on a possible appeal.
