Mkhwebane jumps into the Ramaphosa farm robbery fray

Public Protector Busisiwe Mkhwebane has confirmed that her office is now also investigating the theft of foreign currency from President Cyril Ramaphosa’s private farm in Limpopo.

Mkhwebane says a complaint was lodged at her office by the African Transformation Movement (ATM) leader Vuyo Zungula on Friday.
Ramaphosa is under fire for the theft of a large amount of foreign currency, with questions around the president’s tax obligations and his failure to report the matter to the police.
The allegations came to light a week ago after former spy boss Arthur Fraser laid a criminal complaint against Ramaphosa.
The president has denied any wrongdoing.
Mkhwebane says her office is empowered by the Executive Code of Ethics to conduct an investigation.
“Due to the silence of the EMEA when it comes to the appropriate recipient of the report in case the complaint is against the president, the public protector has previously had to improvise and send it to the Speaker of the National Assembly.
“The investigation concerning Mr Zungula’s complaint has commenced, with allegations letters already written to sources of information, including President Ramaphosa.”
