MKP leadership reshuffle as Zuma rings the changes
uMkhonto weSizwe party leader Jacob Zuma on Tuesday announced several changes to the organisation’s national executive.
The MK party, which became the country’s third biggest during the recent general elections, has undergone several leadership changes since its official launch in December 2023.
Zuma has appointed Sifiso Maseko as the new secretary-general following the resignation of Arthur Zwane.
"This serves to express my heartfelt appreciation for the outstanding and priceless revolutionary work you have done since the formation of MKP,” the former president said in a letter.
“You are hereby being appointed to assume the role of Secretary General of MKP.
“You are expected to perform all functions and responsibilities falling within the purview of the Secretary General's office.
Your appointment is with immediate effect and or is with effect from the date of acceptance, whichever comes first.”
In a letter to Zuma on Monday, Zwane cited his workload, which competes with his business interests, as the reason for his resignation.
"In the last two weeks, I have realised that the volume of work in my office is huge and beyond my limits, especially because I have other competing business interests that I'm pursuing.
“I’m humbled by the confidence you had in me, starting from being DSG and later SG. I'll be available to hand over to the newly appointed SG at any determined time," said Zwane.
He assumed the role in June, succeeding Sihle Ngubane after the party reshuffled its national executive.
Ngubane has since moved to a role in Parliament.
Additionally, Zuma has removed Danisa Zulu from the role of treasurer-general.
"This serves to express my heartfelt appreciation for the outstanding and priceless revolutionary work you have done for the MKP.
“Owing to the need of using our limited and available human capital efficiently, I have decided to relinquish you from the Treasury General functions with immediate effect.
“I will soon engage you regarding a new role can play in a dynamic organisation as MKP," Zuma explained in his letter to Zulu.
Zuma has appointed Menzi Magubane to the role.
