MKP rejects ‘dangerous trend’ of dual citizenship
Updated | By Cliff Shiko
The uMkhonto weSizwe Party has rejected Constitutional Court judgment upholding dual citizenship for South Africans living abroad.

Previously, Section 6(1)(a) of the Citizenship Act revoked citizenship upon acquiring another nationality
The apex court declared the provision unconstitutional on Tuesday.
The Democratic Alliance (DA) launched the application on behalf of South Africans who had lost their citizenship through the provision.
In a statement on Wednesday, the MKP said the county's legal framework is being used to override democratic outcomes and undermine the 'sovereignty' of the majority.
"What we are seeing is a dangerous trend, where unelected judicial actors apply constitutional
provisions in a way that shields minority interests, foreign loyalties and elite privilege.
"We are deeply concerned that dual citizenship creates space for divided loyalties, foreign
interference and a diluted sense of national accountability. The MK Party believes South African citizenship should be rooted in duty, not convenience.
"No sovereign nation should be expected to grant equal political standing to individuals whose primary allegiance lies outside its borders,” the party added.
