Mokgalapa to know fate in January
Updated | By Sinethemba Madolo
The Democratic Alliance is hopeful it will be able to provide clarity on the future of Tshwane Mayor Stevens Mokgalapa in a fortnight.
The party’s Gauteng leader John Moodey says the DA’s federal legal commission has concluded its investigation into Mokgalapa.
Mokgalapa was placed on special leave in November pending investigations into his conduct.
The mayor hit the headlines after a leaked audio recording, in which he and then Transport MMC Sheila Senkubuge are apparently intimate, came to light late last year.
Senkubuge has since resigned from the mayoral committee.
Moodey says the commission's recommendations will be dealt with at the party's upcoming federal executive meeting.
"I have received feedback that the federal legal commission has concluded its investigation.
"Its recommendations will be dealt with at the next federal executive meeting, which will be happening in two weeks’ time, and we will take it from there.”
Moodey says he will be meeting with the council speaker on Tuesday to ensure that the process is fast-tracked.
"Added to that is the fact that this matter was reported by the speaker to the ethics committee within the City of Tshwane.
"I will be meeting with the speaker tomorrow and those are issues I will be dealing with as well and that we expedite and try to get this matter as soon as possible.”
