The African National Congress (ANC) in Tshwane will institute an urgent motion of no confidence against Tshwane Mayor Stevens Mokgalapa.

The ANC claims the mayor is refusing to implement the council’s resolution to appoint James Murphy as acting city manager in the place of Moeketsi Mosola.

Mosola was at the centre of the R12 billion GladAfrica tender scandal.

He failed to vacate his office after Murphy was appointed as the acting city manager at the end of July.

ANC Tshwane spokesperson Bafuze Yabo says the city has also failed to solve the water crisis in Hammanskraal.

“We are also looking at the persistent presence of Previn Govender, who has been found to posses falsified qualifications, yet he holds a very senior position in the city.”

Mokgalapa has dismisses the tabling of the motion, describing it as an act of desperation by the ANC.

“This is frivolous motion with no basis and is just a political stance by the ANC.”
