Molefe: The Guptas are nice people

Eskom CEO Brain Molefe confirmed
to the Portfolio Committee on Public Enterprises
on Wednesday that he has met with the
controversial Gupta family.

Molefe was answering a question posed by DA MP Natasha Mazzone about the relationship between the Eskom leadership and the Gupta family.
Molefe told Mazzone that he does not see anything wrong with the Guptas.
“The question of my relationship with the Guptas arises from a question I was asked on Radio 702. I have met them, the Guptas have been in South Africa for a while, when I look at them I do not see anything wrong with them. I like them and that does not mean they have captured me,” he said.

Molefe was also asked why he has defended the Guptas despite the allegations of state capture made against the family.
“I have been told not to do business with the Guptas, but I have not been given reasons why. We cannot blacklist them without reasons. What laws have they broken? Perhaps I have been captured, but I have been captured by the Constitution” he said.
Eskom Chairman Ben Ngubane told members of Parliament that the Guptas have nothing to do with his appointment at Eskom.
Ngubane said he has served this country and rejects the questioning of his honour and integrity.
