More than 1 000 Gauteng pupils test positive for Covid-19

More than 1000 school children in Gauteng have tested positive for Covid-19 in this past week alone.

This is according to the Gauteng government, which says that there's been a 64% increase in new Covid-19 cases from the previous week.
"A growing number of children at schools in Gauteng are testing positive for Covid-19 with more than 1 000 children at Gauteng public schools testing positive for Covid-19 in the past week.
"While there are no plans to close schools just yet, the government is monitoring the situation and will be guided by expert advice. Each individual has the power to stop the spread."
In the past week, Gauteng has seen a spike in Covid-19 cases and hospitalisations.

There has been a 64% increase in new cases since last week, translating into 3569 daily average cases per week for the province.
The province has also seen 24 043 new cases in seven days.
"Gauteng is seeing a spike in Covid-19 cases and hospitalisations, which is starting to put pressure on the healthcare facilities," adds the Gauteng government.
Gauteng is sitting on 30 436 active cases with 11 573 deaths thus far recorded in the province.
