More than 1 million Gauteng residents still need 2nd Pfizer dose - Makhura
Updated | By Eva Chipa
Premier David Makhura has called on those who have received their first
dose of the Pfizer vaccine to return for a second dose.
Speaking at a newly opened pop-up vaccination site in Khutsong in Gauteng, the premier revealed that over a million people have not returned for their second and final jab.
“We have over a million people who have taken their first doses of Pfizer, whose days have come and past… This is over a million people.”
He said the hesitancy may be due to stories over worse side-effects after taking the second dose.
“There’s always a big story of people who have vaccinated with the first dose of Pfizer and experience some side effects. Even if they mild they think if they get the second dose it will be worse, but in fact it the side effects aren’t as bad.”
He added that they aim to get more people fully vaccinated before the local government elections but importantly before a resurgence in infections.
“We want to reach more people. Ahead of the November elections, ahead of the festive season and ahead of the potential fourth wave. We want to reach more people. Those who have not taken their first does, we are saying to you, you are playing a very dangerous game.”
