More than 100 000 Gauteng pupils offered placement
The Department of Education in Gauteng says it has offered placements to 102 971 pupils for next year.
Around 15 000 applicants accepted their offers as part of the department’s online admission process.
The department has also moved to assuage fear by parents who have not received offers of placement, saying the process only concludes at the end of October.
Spokesperson Steve Mabona says one of the challenges facing the department is the safe-keeping of login credentials by parents.
"It is concerning that our call centre is inundated with calls from parents who have forgotten their login credentials. Some parents are bombarding schools with requests to accept offers on their behalf.
“While capacity and resources in the call centre have been enhanced to accommodate parents during this period, lines are clogged by parents who have lost or forgotten their login credentials," he says.
Parents who have already received offers of placement are urged to accept within 7 days of receiving the placement SMS.
