More than 15 000 Covid-19 patients still in SA hospitals

There has been an increase of 415 new hospital admissions to public and private facilities in the past 24 hours.
The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) on Monday evening, reported that a total of 15 710 people are currently receiving Covid-19 treatment in health facilities across the country.
The NICD has reported a further 5 575 new Covid-19 cases.
Since the start of the pandemic in March 2020, SA now has a total of 2 461 758 Covid-19 cases.
The institute says the increase represents a 21.9% positivity rate
The majority of new cases have come from the Western Cape (32%), followed by Gauteng (19%) and KwaZulu-Natal accounts for 18%.
Western Cape recorded 1773 new cases, Gauteng a total of 1047 and in KwaZulu-Natal, there have been 981 new infections at the start of the week.
There have been 246 new Covid-19 related deaths, bringing total fatalities to 72 437.
On the vaccine front, 187, 855 vaccines were administered on Monday.
