More than 20 miners resurface at Bakubung mine

Workers with chronic ailments were allowed to resurface at Bakubung Platinum Mine in Rustenburg on Friday.
More than 250 workers began a sit-in on Wednesday.
Workers are demanding the employer to stop the section 189 process which could see more than 500 employees lose their jobs.
National Union of Mineworkers (NUM) branch leader at the mine, Joel Sefadi, said workers are adamant they won't resurface until their demands are met.
The demands include salary increases and maternity benefits for women workers.
"Only 24 mineworkers have come to the surface because they agreed with those handling the situation underground because they are on chronic medication,” said Sefadi.
He has accused the management of arrogance after reportedly changing plans for a meeting with unions on Friday at the eleventh hour.
Some 150 miners remain underground.
"They changed that day to the 12th to today, they said we would meet at 8 o'clock at Rivonia at the head office, all of a sudden they changed and said we will have the meeting virtually, we are not surprised when they changed when we were supposed to meet, the management is so arrogant," said Sefadi.
