MetroRail has confirmed that at least 216 passengers were injured in Monday night's train accident in Rosslyn, Pretoria.

According to MetroRail's spokesperson, Lillian Mofokeng, 86 of the patients were treated for light injuries after two coaches collided in at the Lynross station.
"We don't know exactly what happened but two trains collided head-on," she says.
Mofokeng confirmed that a board of inquiry will be established to determine the exact cause of the accident.

"One train was travelling from Ga-Rankuwa and the other one from Pretoria. Both trains were travelling on the same track, resulting in the collision."
She says the damage to infrastructure is being attended to, with one of the two lines that run past the accident scene already functioning again.
"Our teams have been working around the clock and one line is operating, but we are experiencing a 40 minute delay," she says.
