More than 4% fully vaccinated amid warning that Covid could increase

South Africa is ramping up its efforts to vaccinate as many people as possible.
The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) says the 7-day moving average daily number of cases has decreased.
A total of 14 701 new Covid-19 cases have been reported in the latest reporting cycle.
It released its latest report on Saturday.
The majority of new cases today are from Gauteng (43%), followed by Western Cape (16%).

The total number of cases today is lower than yesterday at 15 939 and lower than the average number of new cases per day over the 7 preceding days at 14 941.
However, the World Health Organisation (WHO) has warned that an increase in new infections is expected in the coming days after the recent riots.
Another 291 deaths were recorded bringing the death toll to 66 676.
The recovery rate is over 88%.
This while about 4.2% of South Africans have been fully vaccinated against Covid-19.
More than 5 million doses have been administered.
