More than 700 new Covid-19 deaths in SA
South Africa has recorded a whopping 755 new Covid-19-related fatalities in the past 24-hours.
The latest report by Health Minister Zweli Mkhize shows a spike in Gauteng and KwaZulu-Natal.
Both provinces recorded more than 200 fatalities while the Northern Cape only recorded 2.
The latest tally brings the total to 34 334 deaths.
“Regrettably, we report a further 755 deaths have been reported: Eastern Cape 134, Free State 26, Gauteng 225, Kwa-Zulu Natal 218, Limpopo 11, Mpumalanga 11, Northern Cape 2 and Western Cape 128,” said Mkhize on Tuesday evening.
The number of known cases also increased by 13 105, bringing the number of active cases to 206 291.
The recovery rate improved slightly, climbing to 81 per cent.
Officials in Gauteng, KwaZulu-Natal and the Western Cape remain highly concerned at the high number of cases and deaths.
Following the recent trends, government has also resolved to keep the country under level 3, tightening some regulations.
