More than 9,000 new Covid cases with 140 deaths

The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD),has reported 9,260 new Covid-19 cases in the country in the latest 24-hour reporting period.

The National Department of Health (DoH) reported a further 140 Covid-19-19 related deaths, bringing total fatalities to 92,252 to date.

The majority of new cases are from the Western Cape (26%), followed by Kwa-Zulu Natal (25%).
Gauteng accounted for 20%; Eastern Cape accounted for 9%; Free State accounted for 5%; and Limpopo, Mpumalanga, North West and Northern Cape each accounted for 4% respectively of the cases.
According to the NICD, the 7-day average was 21.7% on Friday night, which is lower than the previous day (22.7%).
"There has been an increase of 361 hospital admissions in the past 24 hours.," said the NICD.
