More than a quarter of people who tested for Covid-19 on Monday tested positive

The National Institute for Communicable Diseases (NICD) says in its latest report that a total of 24 159 tests were conducted in the last 24 hours reporting cycle.
Out of these tests, the positivity rate increased to 26.4%.
There were 6 381 new Covid-19 cases on Monday, bringing the total number of cases that have been reported in the country since the start of the pandemic to over three million.
An additional nine Covid-19 related deaths have been reported, pushing the total of related fatalities across the country to 89 975.
Gauteng accounts for 70% of the national total cases, with 4 488 cases reported in the last 24 hours.
“The majority of new cases today are from Gauteng (70%), followed by KwaZulu-Natal (10%). Western Cape accounted for 6%; Mpumalanga accounted for 5%; Limpopo accounted for 3%; Free State and North West each accounted for 2%; Eastern Cape and Northern Cape each accounted for 1% of today’s new cases,” says the NICD in a statement.
There has been an increase of 175 hospital admissions with 3 517 people currently receiving treatment in both public and private health facilities.
