More than R3bn in donations made to Solidarity Fund - Nqweni
Updated | By Neo Motloung
The Solidarity Fund has to date received more than R3 billion in donations.
The fund, which was established by President Cyril Ramaphosa at the start of the coronavirus pandemic in March, is designed to be an umbrella platform for all South Africa to contribute to the fight against Covid-19.
The fund's CEO Nomkhita Nqweni revealed the latest figures at Charlotte Maxeke Johannesburg Academic Hospital on Monday afternoon, where it donated 42 ventilators as part of an outreach programme.
Nqweni said the donation of ventilators was made possible by the generosity of ordinary South Africans.
"To date, we have dispersed about R2.2 billion in funding. Funding the health responses, humanitarian efforts and very importantly creating awareness around Covid-19 and our behaviour.”
