Mother and child killed in hit and run
A mother and child, who were crossing a road, were killed in an alleged hit outside of Potchefstroom, ER24 reported on Wednesday.
Spokesperson Werner Vermaak said the accident occurred on Viljoenskroon Road in the early hours of Tuesday evening.
“Paramedics were called to the scene where they found the mother and child,” said Vermaak, adding that “both the mother and child had sustained extensive fatal injuries, and there was nothing that paramedics could do and they were declared dead on the scene”.
The ER24 spokesperson said it was thought the mother and her child, believed to be about three years old, were crossing the road when a large vehicle ran them over.
“A second vehicle also collided with them, and according to bystanders on the scene the vehicle that initially collided with the pair continued to drive on,” said Vermaak.
No arrests had been made yet, but police were investigating. - ANA
