Mother, three children drown in Pretoria dam

Gauteng police are investigating the deaths of a woman and her three children who drowned in the Delfie Quarry Dam in Mamelodi, east of Pretoria.

The incident happened on Sunday evening.
The 51-year-old woman, her 36-year-old daughter and two sons in their 20’s were reportedly performing a ritual cleansing in the dam when they drowned.
In a statement, police said a seven-year-old daughter, who stood near the dam, witnessed the ordeal and ran home for help.
"Police and emergency services found the bodies of the mother and daughter floating in the dam,
"Due to the depth of the dam police divers returned on Monday morning and after a 40-minute dive managed to recover the bodies of the two sons."
An inquest docket is being investigated by the Boschkop police station.
