Mothlanthe: ANC doesn’t need ‘step-aside’ to deal with corruption
Updated | By Martine van der Walt Ehlers
Former president Kgalema Mothlanthe has allayed fears over the possible scrapping of the ANC's step-aside rule.

Speaking at the party's national policy conference at Nasrec in Johannesburg on Saturday, Mothlanthe said even if the ANC does away with the resolution, the party's constitution has the necessary provisions in place to deal with criminally charged members.
"The ANC's constitution, if followed to the letter, does address all these matters popping up at this point in time," Mothlanthe said.
"It deals with what constitutes an offence in the ANC.
"The ANC constitution itself basically says if a member is convicted by a court of law of any serious offence, including corruption, that member ceases to be eligible to be a member and should be expelled.
"So, the ANC constitution already makes provisions to ensure that the membership is made up of people who are upright and will not be behaving as though the laws of the land don't apply to them."
