Motorist shoots suspect in the buttocks

A suspected robber is under police guard in a Pretoria hospital after he was shot in the buttocks.

The police’s Daniel Mavimbela says the suspect was allegedly shot by a motorist who had stopped at a red robot on Steve Biko road.
“It is believed three men had accosted the motorists and threatened him with a knife before demanding his valuables. One of the suspects reportedly reached through the car’s window and switched off the ignition. The victim allegedly drew his firearm from the waist unnoticed and shot and wounded one of the alleged suspects in the buttocks.”
He says the suspects are believed to have stolen the victim’s cell phone before fleeing the scene.
“Following a quick reponse, the police caught the wounded suspects within a few blocks from where the alleged incident occurred. A knife was confiscated. He was stabilised and taken to a local hospital,” says Mavimbela.
The suspect will appear in the Pretoria Magistrates Court on charges of possession of a dangerous weapon and robbery.
