Motorists to feel pinch as fuel prices increase
Updated | By Princess Mahogo
Motorists will feel the pinch at the pumps on Wednesday after the Department of Energy announced an increase in fuel prices for August.
The department announced on Monday that both grades of petrol will increase by 37c per litre, while diesel will go up by 71 and 72 cents per litre.
The price of illuminating paraffin will rise 95c per litre at retail outlets.
However, LP gas will decrease by R1.61 per kilogram.
The Energy Department’s spokesperson, Robert Maake, says the price hikes are due to an increase in the price of oil.
“Higher oil prices led to higher prices of all petroleum products during the period under review. The rand appreciated against the dollar and cushioned the prices by around 27c per litre. LP gas is decreasing by around R1.61c per kilogram due to lower prices of propane and butane during the period under review.”
