Motorists urged to avoid Mamelodi
Several roads in Mamelodi, north of Pretoria, have been barricaded with bricks and burning objects.
Residents in the area embarked on a protest this morning.
Tshwane Metro Police spokesperson Isaac Mahamba says the reason for the protest unclear.
"They are raising issues of service delivery, but as to what it is exactly, we will confirm at a later stage," says Mahamba.
Mahamba says the situation is calm, but motorists are urged to make use of alternative routes.
"We have deployed our metro police officers to monitor the situation," says Mahamba.
