Motorists urged to be responsible as death toll mounts

The Road Traffic
Management Corporation says there were five major
crashes on the country’s roads over the long weekend.

The corporation’s spokesperson Simon Zwane says the exact number of deaths is still being collated.
At least 90 people have been killed on the country’s road since the start of the holiday season.
Zwane says the five major crashes occurred in the North West, Limpopo, Western Cape and the Eastern Cape.

"In the Northern Cape there is an incident that we are investigating. In those incidents there were about 5 incidents with 36 fatalities." Zwane says.
"Fatigue was a factor in two and there was also elements of reckless and negligent driving that we are investigating."
Zwane says urges motorists to be responsible on the road and take all necessary precautions.
"These situations can be avoided if we all play our role and make our contribution.”
