Motorists warned of heavy traffic ahead of Durban July

Gauteng Traffic Police have warned motorists to brace themselves for heavy traffic on the N1 South via Heidelberg and the N3 De Hoek Toll Plaza in the direction of Durban on Friday.
Scores of fashionistas, party lovers and horse racing fans will flock to the coastal city this weekend for the annual Durban July horse race.
Gauteng Traffic Police spokesperson Obed Sibasa says motorists will need to exercise patience.
“Gauteng’s highways are expected to be extremely busy from 12pm (on Friday). Motorists will be driving to KZN for the Durban July handicap. More than 2000 motor vehicles are expected on the N1 South via Heidelberg, and N3 South De Hoek Toll Plaza and Mooi River Toll Plaza.
“We urge drivers to travel during the day with headlights on to increase visibility and buckle up. Take regular rest breaks and avoid unsafe overtaking on sharp curves and barrier lines.”
Sibasa says Gauteng traffic officers and other law enforcement agencies will monitor the routes.
