Motshekga: ‘No room for compromise’ on rewrite decision
Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga says the courts will ultimately decide if matric pupils will have to rewrite the two leaked end of year exams.
The matter is expected to be heard soon in the High Court in Pretoria.
Motshekga made the remarks on the side-lines of the release of the 2019 Trends in International Mathematics and Science Study (TIMSS) study result in Pretoria on Tuesday.
Several organisations, including AfriForum and the South African Democratic Teachers Union (Sadtu), have filed court papers to stop the rewrite of the Maths Paper 2 and Physical Science Paper 2.
"I don't know what the compromise would be here because there are two things, we either write or we don't rewrite,” said Motshekga.
"One thing has to happen. It is either we write, or we don't - I do not see room to compromise here. So, the court will decide, and we will abide by the court decision.”
Motshekga reiterated her office's decision that all the pupils should rewrite since all province are affected.
Last week the minister announced that the Mathematics Paper 2 will be written on Tuesday 15 December and the Physical Science Paper 2 on Thursday 17 December.
