Motsoaledi: Life Esidimeni sparked international outrage
Updated | By Nathan Daniels
Health Minister Aaron Motsoaledi broke down during the Life Esidimeni arbitration hearings on Wednesday, testifying that many questions from the international community are left unanswered.

An emotional Motsoaledi apologised to the families of the 144 psychiatric patients who died when they were moved from Life Esidimeni facilities to various NGOs.
"This has tarnished the health system of the country in a way unimaginable. It has placed us in a very difficult position, nationally and internationally because wherever you go internationally they ask you about this issue of Life Esidimeni," says Motsoaledi.

Shedding tears as he testified, Motsoaledi said while he is not embarrassed, he is horrified and very angry.
"I feel people have been betrayed but I also felt personally betrayed as the Minister of Health, who is presiding over this department."
Motsoaledi added he regards the Life Esidimeni tragedy as one of the most painful and horrible events in the history of South Africa.
The hearings are nearing its end - after 42 days of testimonies that started in October 2017.
