Former SABC COO Hlaudi Motsoeneng says he will appeal the ruling by the Labour Court in Johannesburg.
The court ruled that Motsoeneng, the SABC and former acting head of news Simon Tebele are responsible for the unlawful dismissal of the SABC 8 last year.

They now have to bear the costs of the group's unlawful dismissal.
The case was brought by trade union Solidarity.
The union's Anton van der Bijl described the ruling as a victory for all South Africans.
"This victory is not only our victory, it is a victory for all South Africans. It underlines the necessity that government officials, irrespective of how high and mighty they consider themselves to be, should be held accountable for their decisions. It also confirms the basic principles of transparency and accountability as set out in the Constitution.
"We are delighted with the verdict, which could also serve as a precedent in cases against comparable government officials."
Shortly after the ruling was handed down Motsoeneng said he will instruct his legal team to file an appeal.
"For me it's not going to be the end, because I believe this was politically motivated and malicious."
