Committee votes to amend Constitution to allow for land expropriation
Updated | By Neo Motloung
Parliament's Joint Constitutional Review Committee has voted
in favour of amending Section 25 of the Constitution in order for government to
continue with land expropriation without compensation.

During the sitting on Thursday morning, 12 Members of the Committee voted in favour of the amendment, while four votes were against it.
Co-Chairperson, Stan Mahila, believes the Committee followed proper procedures to reach the decision.
"We went out to all the areas, all the provinces - we allowed written submission we all oral submissions," says Mahila.
While the Constitution has been amended 17 times, this is the first time in history that a clause in the Bill of Rights is being considered for amendment.
Co-Chairperson, Lewis Mzimande, says in two weeks' time, the National Council of Provinces and the National Assembly will debate the report before it is adopted.
